Yoga & Advaitya Vedanta - Ranjana Thapalyal, ‘The Chai Sessions’

Ranjana and Judi chatting on zoom about Advaitya Vedanta and yoga

If you've not met Ranjana yet, let me introduce you.

Ranjana is an artist and lecturer living and working right here in Glasgow. I first met her back in 2016 when she came to a class here at Merchant City Yoga. She's been a regular ever since.

I've always loved and really appreciated the rich and diverse conversations that we've had over the years. I'm delighted she'll be offering a very special course here at the studio starting in September.

The course is called, An Introduction to Self-Knowledge According to Advaitya Vedanta.

In this, my twenty-second Chai Session, Ranjana and I begin by chatting about her first experiences with yoga. How she was introduced to Advaitya Vedanta at a very young age by her parents. Ranjana says, growing up it was parallel to "buying popsicles in the corner store". It has always been part of life.

We get into what Advaitya Vedanta is too. How it is really about getting to know the Self that is in all of us, all life, all matter. How the knowledge of Vedanta (knowledge of the Self) is not of practical use unless it is done as yoga. How Vedanta can help us discriminate (be able to tell the difference between things) and meet and engage with the distress of division in our modern world.

Chatting with Ranjana was so interesting. I hope you enjoy listening in.

Listen below or look for 'The Chai Sessions' on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or Amazon Music. You can also watch our chat on Youtube.

Ranjana's 6 hour course, An Introduction to Self-Knowledge According to Advaitya Vedanta, begins on Tuesday 19th September, 7.30pm - 9pm.

The course is really about collective enquiry. Everyone can bring their own experience to the conversation.

You can join the full 6 hour course or book any individual session. Learn more and book HERE

‘The Chai Sessions’

Anyone who has been to Merchant City Yoga on a Sunday knows how much I love catching up with everyone over a cup of my freshly brewed spiced chai. These Sunday chai sessions really bring everyone together, a true celebration of friendship, community and connection.

I want to try and capture some of that magic and share it with you at home. So I've invited some familiar and new faces from our MCY family to chat with me over a cuppa. I'm affectionately calling them 'The Chai Sessions'.
