Illuminate Your Practice - Scott Johnson, 'The Chai Sessions'

Scott Johnson is co-founder and senior teacher at Stillpoint Yoga in London. He first came to MCY back in 2018 where he bravely ate the very first vegan cake I ever made!

I thought it'd be really lovely to speak to Scott here in our 10th Chai Session. He was actually the last guest teacher we hosted at the studio in 2020 before the world changed and went into lockdown. There's something really lovely and special about the fact that he'll now be the first guest teacher back in the studio since we opened again last year.

In our chat Scott speaks to how we've changed through the challenges of the last few years. How we've changed as yoga teachers and as people moving in the world. Scott chats about community, connection, helping people find their voices and know that they are enough.

Scott has named the weekend immersion he’ll share with us this month, 'Illuminate Your Practice' because we're shining a light on and being present to whatever is coming up. It's all about awareness. Scott says...

"What do you notice when you do this thing? When you let everything else fall away…fear, pain, joy. What does that mean? Let's explore that.”

As a host of a guest teacher, students come to me all the time saying, ‘Is my practice good enough because I can't do this?’ ‘I have this injury or this thing going on.’ They feel that means they can't come and join guest teachers like Scott.

If you take nothing else from this Chai Session, know that you are enough just as you as right now. Scott says…

“I stand for people just being open to where they find themselves and moving from there.

I'm happy to meet anyone with anything going on and say 'how can I help?'.

Bring everyone in...bring it all in. You are most welcome."

Grab a cuppa, picture yourself sitting on the sofa in the studio and come and join us.

I hope you enjoy our chat.

Scott will be here at MCY sharing 3 days of Ashtanga yoga self practice, 2 weekend workshops AND a very special yoga assisting workshop for teachers! BOOK HERE

‘The Chai Sessions’

Anyone who has been to Merchant City Yoga on a Sunday knows how much I love catching up with everyone over a cup of my freshly brewed spiced chai. These Sunday chai sessions really bring everyone together, a true celebration of friendship, community and connection.

I want to try and capture some of that magic and share it with you at home. So I've invited some familiar and new faces from our MCY family to chat with me online over a cuppa. I'm affectionately calling them 'The Chai Sessions'.
