Candlelit Meditation & Yoga Nidra – A Festive Tradition at MCY
For fourteen years, this candlelit gathering has been at the very heart of Christmas at Merchant City Yoga. It’s our way of pressing pause on the busyness of December – coming together in stillness, kindness and community.
You don’t need experience to take part. Yoga Nidra (sometimes called “yogic sleep”) is a guided relaxation where all you have to do is rest, listen and let yourself be carried. You can lie down, curl up in a blanket or even sit in a chair – whatever feels most comfortable.
I’ll be joined again by Ema Čulík and Rachael Middlemiss, and as the studio glows with candlelight, the simple act of slowing down creates space for reflection, gratitude and connection – with yourself, with those around you and with the wider world.
And because Christmas is so often centred on food and sharing, every penny raised goes directly to Fareshare Glasgow (administered in Glasgow by Move On SC026983), who redistribute surplus food to local groups supporting people in need. In a season of plenty, they ensure fewer people go without.
Afterwards, if you’re with us in the studio, we’ll catch up over my homemade cranberry mince pies, Christmas cookies and spiced chai. If you’re joining online, you’ll receive my treasured recipes so you can enjoy a taste of the celebration from home.
Tickets are just £15 or you can choose to give a little more, knowing your generosity goes straight to Fareshare Glasgow.
This isn’t just another festive event. It’s about pausing, breathing and giving back.
