Videos from our 10th Candlelit Meditation in aid of Fareshare Glasgow

Our annual Candlelit Meditation is always a very special part of our seasonal celebrations here at MCY. There's power and energy in sitting together and taking nourishment from deep rest.

We wanted to share the magic of our 10th Candlelit Meditation with you at home and invite you to make a donation to Fareshare Glasgow if you’re able. Any amount, no matter how small, adds up and makes a difference. Every penny will be donated directly to Fareshare Glasgow.

Below you’ll find videos from our event on Sunday 11th December 2022 including a Loving Kindness Meditation with Judi, a Body & Breath Meditation with Ema and a deeply relaxing Yoga Nidra with Nicole.

But first, here’s a few words from Move On Development Worker Andrea Eleuteri who shares a little about Fareshare Glasgow’s important work and what your donations have helped them achieve over the years.

Fareshare Glasgow collect and redistribute surplus food across the third sector, donating it to charities and groups working with vulnerable people here in Glasgow. In the last few years, they’ve donated over 60 tonnes of food to charities as well as saving 6 tonnes of food from waste! Also, in partnership with Move On, Fareshare Glasgow provide employability training to young people in their warehouses. Helping them develop the skills and qualifications to move into the workplace. Andrea tells us that demand has increased with the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. Your donations have never been more important.

Loving Kindness Meditation with Judi

In this 15-minute meditation we invite loving kindness towards ourselves. Judi says, “We can all be really guilty of giving too much away, particularly at this time of year. Giving is really important but we need to be sure to be supporting ourselves as well.”

Sit in a way that feels supportive and easeful. Use props, lean against a wall or use a chair. Do whatever you need to do to find ease in your chosen sitting position. We're aiming to sit in stillness but please move at any time if you become uncomfortable.

During a sitting practice we're not straining or striving for something special to happen. Try and relax into it. Let go of any sense of achievement.

Body & Breath Meditation with Ema

Ema offers a meditation using what we’ve got, the body and the breath. Also the reality that we’re all connected together. It’s not complicated and takes about 20-minutes. All you have to do is find a comfortable seat and begin.

“Meditation is a physical practice, asana is a mental practice.” – Michael Stone

Yoga Nidra for Deep Rest with Nicole

Nicole shares a deeply relaxing Yoga Nidra practice. It takes about 35 minutes. You may like to lie down for it. Support the body with props - perhaps a bolster under the knees, a blanket under the head or a blanket laid over the body for warmth.

Make yourself as comfortable as you can, then press play and follow along with this deeply restful practice.

Remember we’re still collecting donations for Fareshare Glasgow. If you can spare a few pounds to support this wonderful organisation we’d be truly grateful. Make a donation to Fareshare Glasgow HERE
