Into The Upside-Down - Matt Evans, 'The Chai Sessions'

Matt is one of our recent MCY teacher-training graduates and handstand enthusiast!

His hand-standing practice started around the same time as his yoga practice. They’ve paralleled over the years and taken Matt places he didn’t expect.

Matt says, “There's nothing that brings you more into the moment than being upside down and trying to control your body.”

It’s just not a natural position for the body to be in - it’s scary! But hand-standing is a puzzle that takes us beyond where we think we can go.

In our chat Matt explains the journey to handstand is a whole body and mind experience, from the tips of the fingers to the tips of the toes, just like yoga. We develop confidence and consistency along the way, learning to face things that we find intimidating. We make our own safety net as we prepare for handstands, developing discipline and a relationship with ourselves as we come back to the practice even when it doesn’t work.

It’s a lot of fun too!

Pop the kettle on, get yourself comfy and come and join us in the upside-down.

I hope you enjoy our chat.

Matt will be sharing his first introductory hand-standing workshop right here at MCY in January 2022!

Join us on Saturday 22nd January (2pm - 4.30pm) and begin developing the confidence and tools to give hand-standing a go. BOOK HERE

‘The Chai Sessions’

Anyone who has been to Merchant City Yoga on a Sunday knows how much I love catching up with everyone over a cup of my freshly brewed spiced chai. These Sunday chai sessions really bring everyone together, a true celebration of friendship, community and connection.

I want to try and capture some of that magic and share it with you at home. So I've invited some familiar and new faces from our MCY family to chat with me online over a cuppa. I'm affectionately calling them 'The Chai Sessions'.
