Mantra is a core practice in the Indian tradition It is often through of as sacred sounds with powerful effects in the mind, body and breath. It is related to flow of life force and has a balancing effect. Through its deep listening and meditative effects, it will take you deeper into the state of yoga.

In this introductory class, you will explore the meaning of mantra as a practice, as we place it in the context of other yogic practices. You will work through the main sounds of the Sanskrit language, in which many of the classic mantras are recited. You will explore the rhythm, meaning and philosophy behind one the best known mantras of the yogic tradition and feel the full energetic power of Sanskrit chanting.

We will also discuss how to create and sustain a chanting practice and what its benefits are. By the end of class you will know this mantra and will be able to practice it in your own time.

This class is suitable for everyone and no knowledge of Sanskrit or any singing skills are required (mantra is not singing!). By the end of the session, you will:
