In this regular monthly class you’ll explore individual asanas and what physical, energetic and contextual dynamics are at play within them.
Each month Ema will choose one or two postures and take them apart to explore:
Biomechanics and anatomy - what is happening in the shape?
Troubleshooting - avoiding pain and optimising the posture for you
Variations and traditions - different approaches to the posture from different lineages and perspectives
Assists and adjustments - how we can support ourselves and each other in the poses.

Is there just one correct way to do an asana?
Ema says:
I believe it’s more useful to ask what dynamics are happening in the shape, and how that relates to our own anatomy, and where we find ourselves in space.
The “asana lab” is a place for experimentation - taking one pose at a time, we look at what is going on biomechanically, energetically, and how it relates to the context of the postures around it in the sequence.
I believe that the asanas are a conversation between our individual bodies and a tradition which is providing us tools to explore, challenge, open, and support ourselves. This means there will always be a version of the pose for every body.
