In aid of Fareshare Glasgow (administered in Glasgow by Move On SC026983)
Our usual counted Ashtanga Led Primary class is only half the story - it’s only half vinyasa!
You might not know it, but the count into and out of each posture in the Ashtanga sequence is calculated from standing in Samasthiti and returning to Samasthiti after each posture. Practising the sequence in this way is called full vinyasa.
In this first Led Primary of 2027 I’m going to count the practice full vinyasa. It means we’ll come back to standing after every posture.
It might sound a bit crazy but it’s really not as knackering as you’d think. Practising in this way brings three important things:
1) Coming back to standing every time gives you space and time to breath;
2) It helps lift your energy, particularly between the seated postures, when we can feel awfy heavy;
3) The count starts to make a bit more sense (sometimes!!).
And because the Christmas holidays are so often centred on food and sharing, every penny raised from this special class goes directly to Fareshare Glasgow (administered in Glasgow by Move On SC026983), who redistribute surplus food to local groups supporting people in need. In a season of plenty, they ensure fewer people go without.
Join me to start your new year of yoga with steady breath, a strong body and a commitment to nurture and grow your practice in the year ahead.
Tickets are just £15 or you can choose to give a little more, knowing your generosity goes straight to Fareshare Glasgow.
There’s a wide range of abilities in this class - just because we practice every posture in the sequence doesn’t mean everyone can do them all, it just means we’re all working towards them at our own pace.
