Yoga Outreach – Sharing, Relationships & Community
Every year I host Edinburgh Community Yoga and their brilliant weekend of yoga outreach training. As a Glasgow yoga studio I’m adamant that we have to take our place within our local community. We have to contribute what we can to support the community, foster relationships and nurture it to grow.
Stress & slowing down by Ana Costa
In the strive to be successful, we easily lose ourselves. Recent surveys show scarily high levels of stress being reported across the UK, with only 7% of young adults reporting that they never feel overwhelmed or unable to cope. For the sake of being successful at work, in our family lives, and in our social lives we are compromising our own physical and mental health.
Looking backwards to move forwards
Last summer I took a whole month out and travelled to Boulder, Colorado to study and practice with legendary yoga teacher Richard Freeman and his wife Mary Taylor at the yoga studio they founded, The Yoga Workshop. It was a 200 hour programme which included practice, teaching methodology, adjusting, philosophical study, chanting, silent meditation, anatomy and cadaver labs! In other words A LOT.
Living Fully
Back in September I had a bit of an issue with my health. It came back up these last couple of weeks before Christmas. Thankfully everything is fine. Again. Like a lot of experiences, this brought into sharp focus that you really never know the minute. And while it’s easy (and very normal) to get caught up in imagining and fearing the worst, the other thing I noticed was occasional, fleeting moments of intense colour and beauty.
Reaching kids with Yoga Outreach
A lot of our CYS Yoga Teacher Training students and MCY teachers talk about wanting to share yoga with groups in the community. Those who would never normally come along to a regular yoga class. When Ana (our Vinyasa Flow teacher and recent CYS Glasgow graduate) was invited to share some yoga with children who’ve experienced challenging upbringings she bravely jumped at the chance.
Finding Inspiration
Where do you look for inspiration in your yoga practice? Or in fact in life? I’m not the first to be dismayed by the many images across social media of people doing challenging and complex yoga postures, with their beautiful bodies usually in some fantastic location. However, social media, if you’re discerning, can give you access to thought provoking, inspirational and downright amazing people…
Peg Mulqueen & David Robson at MCY!
I’m so excited to announce dates for these two fantastic international teachers devoted to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga to visit MCY! We’ll do five days of Morning Mysore (Wednesday to Sunday) and a series of afternoon workshops Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
