Weekend Workshops Series with Lucy Crawford
Across these two workshops, Lucy will guide you through an exploration of the feet and their relationship to the hips, pelvis and spine – first through the lens of fascia, then through movement and embodied experience.
You’ll look at how actions in the foot and hip affect the lower leg and pelvis and how these in turn influence the spine. With Lucy’s clear, grounded teaching style expect to come away with a deeper sense of connection and understanding in your own practice.
All are welcome, whether you're new to yoga or have been practising for years.

Workshop 1 | Finding Your Foundation: The Foot in Practice
Saturday 29 November, 2-4pm
In this first workshop, Lucy will introduce the fascinating structure of the foot – its bones, fascia and the intricate movements that support us in yoga and in life. Using a set of elasticated foot bones she’ll demonstrate how the bones articulate and move during both pronation and supination, and what drives these actions.
You’ll explore how movements can be initiated either through the foot’s contact with the ground or from the ankle, led by the tibia and fibula as they move the talus bone – the “caged bone” at the heart of your study. Through both palpation and movement you’ll observe these patterns in yourself and others, working with Surya Namaskara and a selection of standing postures including Padangusthasana, Padhahastasana, Trikonasana A & B, Virabhadrasana A & B and Utthita Padangusthasana.
You’ll work with a series of playful explorations of the ankle during squatting and experiment with supination and pronation in different poses to notice what changes in your grounding, stability and support.
Expect a hands-on, experiential afternoon that will bring new life to your practice.

Workshop 2 | From the Ground Up: Walking, Knees & the Kinetic Chain
Sunday 30 November, 2-4pm
How can you support your body with more conscious listening to something we do without thought most of the time?
This second workshop continues the theme, shifting your focus to the simple yet complex process of walking and how greater awareness in movement can transform the way you stand, walk and practise.
Through conscious movement explorations you’ll study how the foot, ankle, knee and hip connect into the sacrum and spine during walking, jumping and asana. You’ll look closely at how the tibia, which carries about 90% of the body’s weight when standing, works with the foot through a series of movements – from heel contact, to grounding (pronation), to re-supination and push-off.
You’ll explore how the knee is often a place of compensation – affected from above by the hip and from below by the tibia. You’ll investigate rotational movements at the knee, both those initiated from the foot upwards and from the hip downwards, and see how restrictions in either area can create compensatory movements at the knee joint. You’ll also briefly visit the role of the sacroiliac joints in this kinetic and fascial chain.
Lucy will guide you through a range of asana to bring these concepts to life, offering a deeper understanding of how the whole body works together in motion.

About Lucy
Years of experience in holistic bodywork and ashtanga yoga define Lucy’s gentle and profound energy when teaching.
Her interest in a more holistic approach to life started in 1990 working as a massage therapist and aromatherapist in London. On her way to work one day she spotted a long line of people queuing down the road with yoga mats to get into an adjacent building. It was the hugely popular Derek Ireland and Radha Warrell visiting London to teach an Ashtanga workshop!
Lucy joined them and began her Ashtanga journey. She was hooked and soon travelled to Mysore, India to begin her studies with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and in 1995 was authorised to teach.
The same year she started a family with John Scott whom she met on her first trip to Mysore.
Lucy also collaborated on the book Ashtanga Yoga with Lino Miele, the first of its kind to lay out the sequences and vinyasa count that are so much part of ashtanga yoga.
Lucy’s based in Devon and leads Ashtanga workshops in the UK and internationally.
