INSTUDIO Workshop 1 | Feeling in to the Hips with Scott Johnson

  • Merchant City Yoga 2nd Floor, 49 Virginia Street Glasgow, Scotland, G1 1TS United Kingdom (map)

The practice of yoga asks us to feel deeply in to the body and listen. We are constantly learning to notice new ways to be in touch with what’s going on within us.

The Ashtanga Yoga practice places emphasis on particular ways of noticing the body, the articulation of the hip joint being prominent.

In this workshop we will look at the patterns of the hip not only as a general movement principal but also as a unique and personal process of holding patterns that we can let go of.

We will look at how the hip opening patterns of the primary and intermediate series ask us to listen deeper to what’s going on in the whole body, not just the hips…

What you will gain from this weekend immersion?

Over the intensive you will gain insight into your own patterns of practice and how to move in your own unique way. If working with pain or injuries there will be fresh light on how to alleviate and work with these issues. We will use the wider context of anatomy, mindfulness and philosophy to see how we can notice things in a fresh way. This will also help you to see the practice of yoga in a wider context to your life.

About Scott

Scott has been director and senior teacher at Stillpoint since he co-founded it in 2009 as Stillpoint Yoga London, with the late Ozge Karabiyik. He has dedicated himself to sharing the practice of yoga each weekday morning since then.

Scott has been practising yoga since 1998, and teaching Ashtanga yoga since 2003. He's one of only a few Ashtanga teachers to both be authorised in the primary and intermediate series by Manju Jois and be given senior teacher status by John Scott.

Scott is registered as a senior yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance UK and has also undergone extensive training with Clear Mind International, gaining their level 1, 2 & 3 certificate in Mindfulness and Compassion.

Scott’s years of dedicated and committed teaching each morning has led Stillpoint to become a highly respected central London Ashtanga yoga shala. He meets everyone who comes and looks to create long-term relationships, integrating the practice of yoga and embodied mindfulness as a way of meeting the world.
