Our usual counted Ashtanga Led Primary class is only half the story. If we’re being very correct, it’s only half vinyasa!
The counting into and out of each posture in the Ashtanga sequence is calculated from standing in Samasthiti and returning to Samasthiti after each posture. Practicing the sequence in this way is called full vinyasa.
In this first Led Primary of 2024 we’re going to practice full vinyasa. We’ll come back to standing after every posture.
It sounds a bit crazy but it’s really not as knackering as you’d think! Practicing in this way brings three important things:
1) Coming back to standing every time gives you space and time to breathe;
2) It helps lift your energy, particularly between the seated postures, when we can feel awfy heavy;
3) The count starts to make a bit more sense (sometimes!!).
Join us to start this new year of yoga with steady breath, a strong body and a commitment to nurture and grow your practice in the year ahead…
There’s a wide range of abilities in this class - just because we practice every posture in the sequence doesn’t mean everyone can do them all, it just means we’re all working towards them at our own pace. However, to get the most out of this class we ask that you’re at least familiar with the Primary Series sequence up to Navasana.
