BEGINNERS

Your First Steps into Yoga

Choosing your first yoga class can feel overwhelming - we get it! Walking into a room full of people who seem to know exactly what they’re doing can be intimidating. But here’s the good news: you don’t need to be flexible, strong or know anything about yoga to get started.

Our Beginners and Basics classes are designed just for you (any class with beginners or basics in the title). You’ll be guided step by step, learning to move and stretch with confidence while becoming more aware of your breath. Expect plenty of clear instruction, teacher demonstrations  and a supportive group of fellow beginners - because everyone starts somewhere.

No pressure, no pretzel poses - just a welcoming space to explore yoga at your own pace.

ASHTANGA

A Dynamic, Breath-Led Practice

Ashtanga Yoga is a strong, flowing and structured style of yoga that follows a set sequence of postures, gradually building in complexity and intensity. Each posture lays the foundation for what comes next, creating a practice that is both challenging and deeply transformative.

The sequence is breath-counted, meaning every movement is linked to a precise inhale or exhale - bringing focus, rhythm and a meditative quality to your practice. Traditionally, these breath counts (vinyasa) are counted in Sanskrit, adding to the rich tradition of Ashtanga.

We start with the Primary Series, also known in Sanskrit as Yoga Chikitsa (Yoga Therapy). This sequence is designed to strengthen and balance both body and mind.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN AN ASHTANGA CLASS

Surya Namaskar A & B (Sun Salutations) – Establish rhythm, breath, and movement.

Standing Postures – Build grounding, strength, and flexibility.

Seated Postures – Develop flexibility, technique, and confidence.

Finishing Sequence – Calm the nervous system and prepare for deep relaxation.

No matter where you are in your practice, the structure of Ashtanga offers consistency and growth, helping you progress over time with discipline, focus and breath awareness

MYSORE STYLE

The Heart of Ashtanga Yoga

Mysore-style Ashtanga is a self-paced, assisted practice - a uniquely personal and supportive way to learn.

Unlike led classes, where everyone moves together, in Mysore practice, students work at their own pace, following the Ashtanga sequence with one-on-one guidance from an experienced teacher. This means you’ll get personalised adjustments, modifications and advice tailored to your experience and needs.

WHAT MAKES MYSORE STYLE SPECIAL?

Practice at your own level – Your teacher will help you build your practice step by step.

Receive hands-on support & adjustments – Learn safe alignment and deeper awareness.

Develop independence in your yoga – Grow in confidence and consistency.

Perfect for beginners & experienced students – Everyone works at their own pace.

Mysore teachers are dedicated Ashtanga practitioners with years of experience practising, assisting and studying with their own teachers. Their role is to support, encourage and guide you - helping you develop a practice that is both challenging and sustainable.

VINYASA FLOW

Breath, Movement & Creativity

Vinyasa Flow is a dynamic and fluid style of yoga where each posture flows seamlessly into the next, guided by the rhythm of your breath. Every class is unique, blending movement, breath awareness and creative sequencing to build strength, flexibility and focus.

Rooted in the tradition of Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Flow offers freedom and variety - no two classes are the same. You’ll move through a tailor-made sequence, incorporating:

Sun Salutation variations to warm the body and set the rhythm

Standing and seated postures for balance, strength, and flexibility

Breath and subtle body work to deepen awareness and connection

Vinyasa Flow is energising, fun and endlessly adaptable - perfect for those who love movement, creativity and a practice that evolves with them.

Vinyasa & Movement

Strength, Mobility & Flow

This class blends dynamic Vinyasa yoga with functional movement, strength training and mobility work - giving you a well-rounded practice that builds control, awareness and resilience.

You'll move through a breath-led flow of classical yoga postures, interwoven with strength-based drills and mobility exercises designed to:

Improve balance & coordination

Increase strength & flexibility

Expand your range of motion

Enhance body awareness & control

Bring joy to movement - because yoga should feel good!

And of course, after all that focused movement and mindful challenge, you’ll finish with a well-earned deep relaxation.

YIN YOGA

Stillness, Depth & Release

Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative practice where seated or reclined postures are held passively for 3 minutes or more, often with the support of props like blocks, bolsters, and blankets.

While gentle and quiet, Yin Yoga offers deep physical and mental benefits. By relaxing muscular effort, you allow the body to target the deeper connective tissues (Yin tissues) around the joints, helping to:

Release deeply held tension that dynamic yoga may not access

Improve joint mobility & flexibility through slow, sustained stretching

Calm the nervous system and cultivate a meditative state of awareness

Rather than effort and force, Yin Yoga invites you to yield, soften and explore stillness - making it the perfect complement to an active, Yang-style practice.

PRANAYAMA

The Art of Breath & Vital Energy

Pranayama refers to traditional yogic breathing techniques, forming the fourth limb of Yoga. More than just breath control, Pranayama is a powerful tool for cultivating awareness, balancing energy and enhancing overall well-being.

Through guided breathwork you’ll learn to:

Refine your breathing for greater ease and efficiency

Increase energy levels by improving the flow of prana (life force)

Reduce stress & calm the nervous system through mindful breath awareness

Enhance focus & mental clarity by working with breath retention and rhythm

Breath is the bridge between body and mind - join us to explore how intentional breathing can transform your practice and daily life.

MEDITATION

Meditation is the practice of cultivating awareness of our thoughts and feelings. It’s not about turning them off but about learning to observe them without comment or judgement. This helps us be aware of what’s happening in our body, our mind or our surroundings in the present moment.

According to MIND, the mental health charity, meditation can help you to:
Increase your awareness of your thoughts and feelings;
Manage unhelpful thoughts;
Develop more helpful responses to difficult feelings and events;
Be kinder towards yourself;
Feel calmer and able to manage stress better;
Manage some physical health problems, like chronic pain.
