MCY's Got Talent - Fluidity of Movement with Diana Krasniqi

I’m sure many of you will really identify with the ups and downs of practise Diana talks about here, especially how injury can stop you practising and leave you feeling disconnected from your body. The very opposite of what we’re trying to do in yoga!

Diana graduated from our CYS Glasgow Yoga Teacher Training programme last August in the midst of Covid. I’m so proud that she’s had the courage to find her way back to her practice, explore what works for her own body and share it with us all here.

She says…

"I started practicing yoga while at university for the physical and mental benefits that come with it. I wasn’t exercising much at the time and thought yoga would be the gentle gateway to more activities. However, I was pleasantly surprised that certain styles would get my heart rate going and my body sweaty by the end of it!

After practicing yoga, I’d feel a sense of peace and lightness that I wasn’t familiar with before. It was that feeling that kept me stepping back on my mat again and again. A few years on, yoga has been a patient friend by my side seeing me through the various transitions that life undoubtedly goes through.

More recently I’ve been working with an injury which has completely changed my practice. I started to fear movement in case I triggered the pain and consequently stopped practicing. I started to fear my own body and lost trust in its ability to support me through movement. I became disconnected with my body and lost sight of the relationship I was building with it. I was even scared of Savasana?!

In the last few months, I decided enough was enough. I stepped on my mat and decided to simply move! Nothing fancy, just simple flows to get my blood flowing and to create a bit of heat. Our body is truly miraculous and usually capable of a lot more than we give it credit for. I’ve started to trust it again by allowing it to move and allowing it to communicate with me through signals and sensations. I’ve realised that as long as we’re moving, we’re doing something pretty great.

So this class I’ve recorded for you is what my practice looks like now. I hope you enjoy it <3"

Diana's on demand class is all about moving the body. The aim is simply to get the blood flowing, get your spine and hips moving, and introduce some fluidity through flows and circular movements. It's a great practice for any time of the day.
