Do good to feel good - Nicole McMahon, ‘The Chai Sessions’

In this session I’m chatting with Nicole who teaches our Ashtanga Yoga Beginners Class and structured Six Week Introduction to Ashtanga Course here at the studio.

We chat about what brought Nicole to yoga, her experiences now as a teacher, respecting where we and others are, her charity work, her doing good to feel good philosophy and, of course, the JOY.

Nicole shares yoga with some wonderful charities including Finding Your Feet and Cancer Support Scotland and fundraises for mental health charity SAMH.

Both Nicole and I passionately believe that in lifting others up we are lifted ourselves. That’s where the joy comes from.

Pop the kettle on, get yourself comfy and come and join us...

Below are some details and links for the charities Nicole mentions in our chat…

SAMH

‘SAMH is the Scottish Association for Mental Health. Operating in communities to provide a range of mental health support and services.’

Finding Your Feet

‘We support families affected by amputation or limb absence through a range of sporting initiatives and social inclusion projects designed to positively affect both physical and mental wellbeing. Isolation is a huge problem for many amputees. It has been proven that quality of life and even life expectancy is greatly reduced without social inclusion, with as many as 30% of vascular amputees not surviving to one-year post amputation. FYF is key in addressing this issue. We are directly saving lives.’

Cancer Support Scotland

‘As a national charity we are dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of those affected by cancer across Scotland. We are passionate about providing free holistic care and support that is never restricted by type or by region. Our doors will always be open to anyone who needs us, living in communities across the country.’

The charity is Cancer Support Scotland however I volunteered with the student society group GCU CSS. A student society from Glasgow Caledonian University raising funds for CSS directly. Their details are: and CSS have emailed me directly thanking me for my involvement with GCU CSS and the funds raised far – all good stuff as GCU Alumn myself.
