OUR MOST POPULAR FAQs
Who can do yoga?
Everybody. Yes, even you. People who exercise a lot and people who never exercise at all. People who are really stiff and tight, and people who are really bendy. People of all ages from 8 to 80 and you don’t even have to “get into” yoga to get the benefits. Oh, and men. They can do it too. At MCY we do practical, no nonsense yoga and keep it real. If this sounds up your street and you fancy a class, get in touch pronto.
I’m not flexible – can I still do yoga?
That makes you perfect. Thinking you need to be flexible before you start yoga is a little bit like thinking you need to be able to drive before you take driving lessons. Come as you are and yoga will help you do the rest. You’re not the first to think it and you won’t be the last.
Which class is for me?
If you’ve never done any yoga before it’s best to start with one of our Beginners’ classes or courses where we slow things down and give you tons of help and instruction. We run regular Six Week Introduction courses and our weekly Beginners classes are on a Monday and Tuesday at 7.30pm, Wednesday at 6pm or Tuesday and Thursday at 12.40pm.
After a few classes, or if you’ve done some yoga before, you can come to any of our classes. We guarantee you’ll get the yoga bug and become a regular visitor. You’ll find our next Introduction Course here and our regular timetable here and you can click on the name of the class for a full description.
What do I need?
Wear a pair of sweat pants, leggings or shorts and a t-shirt that’s not too baggy. No special footwear is needed as you’ll be barefoot. If you have a mat bring it along, otherwise we have a few to borrow in class, just to get you started.
We also have mats for sale so be sure to ask if you’re thinking about investing in one. You might sweat, especially in the Ashtanga classes, so drink plenty of water beforehand and you might want to bring a change of clothes if you’re not going straight home.
Where is MCY?
We’re in the heart of town within The Jacobean Building, 49 Virginia Street Glasgow G1 1TS. Only a five minute walk away from Central & Queen St Stations and St Enoch’s & Buchanan St Underground stations, and there’s loads of buses passing right by the door.
Take a look at our contact page for our location and should you need directions.
Is there parking nearby?
Street parking around MCY is free after 6pm and all day Sunday. Monday – Saturday 8am-6pm metered parking in the immediate area costs 60p per 12 mins. That’s fine if you’re going to class at 6pm but not cheap if you’re in for a few hours on a Saturday morning. If parking for longer park on the other side at the Barras on Bell St. The cost is 20p for the first 30 mins and 20p per 10 mins thereafter. Coming to an event or workshop which is longer than an hour or two, park in King St outdoor car park for £5 for 10 hours any day of the week.
Need to cancel?
If you book into a class you have up until two hours before the start time of the class to change your booking. Cancellations made within two hours of the start time of class will be charged in full. No refunds will be issued unless MCY cancels a class, workshop, course or event. Some exceptions may be allowed solely at the discretion of MCY.
What payment methods are accepted?
The easiest and quickest way to pay is online using your credit or debit card. Or you can pay cash in person – the old fashioned way!
